Electrical rewiring

Whether you are homeowner, landlord and tenant, we can carry out complete or partial rewires on homes of any size, style and age. Rewires may be need for a number of reasons including bringing ageing or dated wiring up to modern standards, or if there’s a fault with your lighting or mains sockets.

A full rewire may not be required and we may be able to repair any faults or replace any faulty equipment such as installing new sockets.

We can carry out a full inspection and survey and provide a full and complete quote for carrying out the rewire or replacement and installation of any other fault components.

All the rewiring work is completed to the BS7671 wiring regulations and come with the NICEIC Platinum Promise six-year guarantee for your peace of mind. Full NICEIC certification and Part P compliance notifications are included.

We offer a FREE no obligation quotation, if you are not sure if you need a rewire or just some upgrading, call us now and we will advise you on the best course of action.

How do you know when your home is ready for a rewire?

It is recommended that a periodic inspection is carried out by a registered electrician at least every 10 years for an owner-occupied dwelling and five years for a rental property or at the change of tenancy. The electrician will then give you advice in the condition of your electrics and if a rewire is required.  It is also important for the electrics to be checked by a fully qualified electrician when buying a new property.

If you’re thinking you need a rewire but are not sure, here are a few signs you should look out for:

  • If a property is more than 30 years old and has the original wiring.

  • If your house has dated rubber, fabric or lead-insulated cabling.

  • You have circuit breakers that trip regularly.

  • You receive slight shocks from switches and outlets.

  • Frequently flickering or dimming lights.

  • Sockets mounted in skirting boards

  • Damaged or exposed wires and cables.

  • Brown sockets and switches - often rounded in shape

  • Wall-mounted switches in the bathroom – a wall-mounted switch must

be a reasonable distance from a bath or shower to meet regulations.

A rewire is also a perfect opportunity to move and add sockets, light fittings and large electrical items in your home. Also if you are planning a major renovation to your home, building an extension, or adding an external garage, it may be a good choice to include a rewire into the budget of the project.

All our rewires are designed with the future in mind. We leave plenty of room in your new Consumer Unit to add additional circuits, for future needs e.g. solar system installations, EV charging points etc.

On completion, plastering work, ethical recycling and rubbish removal of waste material are carried out and your property is left clean and tidy.  All rubbish is removed from your property and ethically disposed of or recycled where possible.

Questions

What is a rewire?

In simple terms, and as the word suggests, a house rewire involves replacing part, or all, of the electrical installation/wiring  in a property.

  • Replacing fuseboards/consumer units

  • Running new wiring to lights, sockets and switches

  • Moving and adding sockets and some switched to meet current regulations and modern requirements

  • Upgrading cabling to take advantage of improved technologies

A complete rewire of a property is a large undertaking however, it will make a property safer as well as making sockets, switches and lights more useable.

What types of rewire can be done?

We do full rewires, part rewires, kitchen rewires & full or part lighting rewiring.

We can rewire a single lighting circuit or socket circuit or rewire a kitchen, whatever your needs we can meet your needs with both domestic and commercial rewiring.

Will I be left without electricity?

We will ensure that you have electricity throughout, you will not be left without power overnight: fridges, freezers, and other electricity dependent equipment will be protected at all times whilst the work is being carried out.

What is involved in the work?

We will replace and renew all of your existing wiring, electric sockets, light pendants, cabling and consumer unit (fuseboard), however, as each installation does vary, during a site survey, we will let you know exactly what will need replacing.

Why might a property need a rewire?

  • Usability: The demands of a house’s electrical installation have changed from 20 to 30 years ago. In the past sockets, lights and switches were positioned to accommodate lamps, electric heaters and a single plug for the TV. Technology has moved on. Now home entertainment systems, wall mounted TV’s, more powerful electric showers, home offices, a plethora of kitchen appliances and USB charging points make quite different demands on a properties electrical systems.

  • Regulatory changes: Regulations and best practice for home electrical wiring is updating  all the time. A rewire will accommodate these changes.

  • Safety: Perhaps most important of all, in particular for older properties. Substandard or overloaded electrical installations cause around 8,000 fires each year in the UK.  Quite simply, a new electrical installation, done to current regulatory standards, is safer than one that was at the cutting edge of technology 30 years ago.

  • Running cost reductions / improving energy efficiency: Installing energy efficient lighting (LEDs) and smart controls as part of a rewire will lead to lower electricity consumption (lower bills).
